How its going so far, a look at our 24 weeks : The Art of Ceramics student’s progress.
At the halfway point of our 24-week pottery course, it’s inspiring to see how much ground the students have covered and how confidently their skills are developing. Over the first term, students have built a strong foundation in understanding form and shape, learning how to design pieces that are both functional and expressive. They’ve explored a wide range of surface techniques, including the use of slips and underglazes to add depth and color, as well as sgraffito and inlayt for detailed, graphic decoration. Experimentation has been a key focus, with students also working with underglaze transfers and testing different glazing combinations to see how layers interact and transform in the kiln.
Looking ahead to the next term, the course will move into even more exciting territory. Students will begin mixing their own glazes, gaining a deeper understanding of materials, chemistry, and how subtle adjustments can dramatically change results. We’ll also be introducing mould-making, giving students the opportunity to design and create their own forms for slip casting. This next phase will encourage even greater independence and experimentation, building on the solid skills developed so far and opening up new creative possibilities as the course moves into its second half.
Check out our gallery below for a round up of their work so far. If you’d like to be on the next round of classes the next start date is April. Be sure not to miss out on this as we only have 4 spaces!
